The Washington Stealth's Champion's Cup winning 2010 was recognized by the House of Representatives.

Late last night the Washington Stealth got word that the House of Representatives was formally recognizing and congratulating the franchise for their 2010 National Lacrosse League Champion’s Cup title, a first for an NLL or MILL team.

“I’ve seen the Stealth play and seen firsthand the inspiration the players have on kids in my community,” said Jay Inslee, the Representative from Washington’s 1st Congressional District, in a statement issued by the team Wednesday evening. “These athletes don’t get paid millions of dollars, but they play with all the spirit and heart of world class competitors. They demonstrate to kids what it means to play for the love of the game as well as the rewards that can only be found working as part of a team.”

The Stealth of course captured last year’s pro title, beating the Toronto Rock at home in front of a by far season high audience at Comcast Arena (8,609), recent Inside Lacrose Laxie Award nominee Lewis Ratcliff also named the final’s MVP, his 2010 season accomplishments also recognized by the House yesterday.

“Winning the NLL Championship was a tremendous accomplishment for our organization,” said Stealth Owner Denise Watkins. “We thank Rep. Jay Inslee for sponsoring this resolution, the 55 co-sponsors and the Congress of the United States for recognizing the lacrosse community.”

Right after being taken 5th overall in this past month’s NLL entry draft, we questioned whether the Rochester Knighthawks’ selection of the BC based prospect Jarrett Davis was taken for trade bait, similar to what happened with the same frachise a year earlier after picking up Ilija Gajic (who was later moved to Colorado). Well, we were wrong, cuz Davis is amped about going East, Knighthawks columnist Andrew Pender writing, “He is the type of athlete who would travel wherever to play lacrosse, and lucky for us he’s going to bring his talents to us.” (Knighthawks)… Dealt by Calgary to Edmonton late last week, Rush GM and Head Coach Derek Keenan is happy about the hometown addition of Devan Wray. “I’ve always liked Devan’s game. He suits our style of play. Adding Devan to our lineup strengthens our depth, gives us a lot of versatility, and a key attribute in the experience of getting all the way to the final and winning the championship.” (Rush)… One of the highest Americans listed in Insider’s 2010 entry draft preview, Ryan Hurley is happy about landing in the Minnesota Swarm organization. “I’m really excited about my chances to play and make an impact in the indoor game. Growing up playing hockey, you get used to the confines of playing a physical game in a smaller area. Even when I was playing outdoor lacrosse, my game was always inside, in the middle of the crease and in traffic.” (Swarm)… Initially reported by Insider this past summer, the Philadelphia Wings have officially announced the expected return of Athan Iannucci to their 2011 lineup. “The hardest part was not getting ahead of myself. My knee felt strong after only a few months, but I knew it was too soon.” – Iannucci (Wings)… A multi-nominee in Inside Lacrosse’s  2010 Laxie Awards, Paul Rabil gets his Dos Equis on (Inside Lacrosse), below.
