NLL Entry Draft: Hello My Name Is… Chase Williams

Chase Williams brings an O-first two-way role to the table a lot of NLL teams need to fill better.
Chase Williams brings an O-first two-way role to the table a lot of NLL teams need to fill better.

Chase Williams is this year’s early round wild card pick.

He plays a role that many current National Lacrosse League team’s don’t get steady production from, a legit offensive two-way player that can help O production but also play that backtracking gig to slow down the opposition’s press and avoid those backbreaking tranny goals going the other way.

A Minto Cup winner with the Burnaby Lakers in 2005 & 2004, Williams, a Bellarmine middie, has remained in the city since going to the WLA, showing he can hang with some of the game’s best, a relentless worker that does all the little things to keep things ticking on the court.

Williams could go as high as late first round and potentially to the tail-end of the second depending on what role teams are looking to fill, ranked 11th in Insider’s 2010 Hot 50 based largely on his speed, decision making ability and a maturity to his game that is better than most available in this year’s draft.

On the right roster, in the right role, Williams could be a big impact rookie in 2011.

What do you feel your greatest asset is that would allow you to translate your game to the NLL?
My powerful outside shot and foot speed allows me to find the back of the net and find anyone who sees an opportunity. I have played indoor lacrosse at the highest level my entire life which has given me tons experience and confidence when faced with various situations during games or series.

One (or a couple) word(s) to describe your game?
Relentless and never give up. Willingness to do anything for the team to win. Able to adapt to any situation that arises.

What role/position do you see yourself playing in the NLL?
Offensive player, setting great picks and allowing myself and others to get open and find the net.

What current or former NLLer would you most closely compare or model your game after?
Jordan Hall

Your greatest accomplishment during your lacrosse career?
Burnaby Lakers Junior A back-to-back Minto Cup Champions as well as my five years with the team. I learned a great deal from our Coach Curt Malawsky during my time their. Also, my four years at Bellarmine University taught me a lot about staying conditioned and strong to help my lacrosse abilities. In my last year with Bellarmine University I was name Nike/Inside Lacrosse/ECAC NCAA Division I Player of the Week, which was a great honor.

Anything else to add?
I am open to play in any NLL city whether it is in Canada or the USA. I have dual Canadian/American citizenship so I would like to relocate to the the city where the team is and get a job their. I also have a Business Administration degree with a minor in Economics and would love to put it to work for either the team or job in their city. I have experience working with Elev8 Lacrosse and the Westcoast 150 Lacrosse Camps and love to help and give back to lacrosse communities.
