Insider had named Coquitlam Adanacs goaltender Dan Lewis this year’s Playoff Performer of the Year, the A’s goaltender a huge reason why Coquitlam beat the Orangeville Northmen not just once in round robin play but two straight times in the Minto’s best-of-three final, giving the Adanacs their first ever Minto Cup victory.

Adam Jones, who played in this year’s tournament and was named to our All-Minto Team below, was 2008 and 2009’s Playoff Performer of the Year, Lewis joining Orangeville backstop Dillon Ward, this year’s Junior of the Year, as the first two goalkeepers to take arguably Inisder’s two greatest Junior A honours.

While the Adanacs split time between three legit starting goalies during the BCJALL post-season (and tail end of the regular season), Lewis sharing time with Burnaby Lakers trade deadline pickup Brodie MacDonald and longtime Coquitlam regular Chris Seidal, Lewis’s stellar play during the past week had him playing by far the most clutch lacrosse of the tourney, keeper or runner, holding the Northmen’s usually mighty offense to just nine goals between those two final series W’s.

Lewis appeared to be fighting for playing time shortly after this year’s deadline moves, but instead of packing it in, Lewis put on a performance of a lifetime when his chance came during Game 3 of the BCJALL final versus the New Westminster Salmonbellies, never looking back since that 11-8 win. Lewis went 8-0 after that game against the Bellies, seeing a ton of heat in all the A’s games against the Northmen, a hefty 131-shots in those three wins over the two-time defending champs, just 4.5 goals against per game in the two starts that really mattered on Friday and Saturday night.

Built in a similar way as this year’s JOTY in Ward, Lewis is a tall, lanky tender that relies on agility, speed and reflexes, now adding a heightened level of clutch pay to his growing resume, available in this year’s National Lacrosse League entry draft.

“The A’s aren’t national champions if Dan Lewis doesn’t play the way he did,” said Insider’s Brad Challoner, who has seen Lewis’ progression all season, the voice of the Adanacs and this year’s Minto tourney.

Insider is also releasing our first ever All-Minto Teams, handing out All-Star nods to the tournament’s best, Lewis leading that rundown as well.

Below, check out this year’s inaugural All-Minto Teams, as well as Insider’s Junior of the Year Awards history.
