NLL Entry Draft: Hello My Name Is… Glen Bryan

Glen Bryan momments after the Northmen swept the Arrows in the OLA finals. (Ward Laforme Jr.)
He’s captained arguably the best Junior A program in the country for the past three summers, the Orangeville Northmen’s on-and-off floor leader, Glen Bryan is currently in Coquitlam gunning for a third straight Minto Cup but will also be one of the top defensive prospects available in next month’s National Lacrosse League entry draft in Toronto.
Shortly after turning 19, Bryan had the ‘C’ stitched on his silver-and-black O’Ville sweater, one of the youngest captains in the Junior game over the past decade plus. A leader and winner in every sense of the word(s), Bryan comes off a regular season which saw him named the OLA’s top defensive player, the loop’s John Gus McCauley Memorial Award winner in 2010.
It’s an honour that sees Bryan’s named listed beside the likes of past winners like Andy Ogilvie, Phil Sanderson, John Gallant, Pat & Brodie Merrill, Rory Glaves, Kyle Sorensen, Sid Smith, and last year’s winner and fellow 2010 future draftee, Kyle Rubisch. Not a bad group to be linked to for the rest of your career.
Bryan is hugely respected by both teammates and opponents, a hard working, leave it all on the floor, pure defender that can also add some decent transition and good decision making on the run, a perfect fit for the very successful defensive system teams like the Buffalo Bandits, Calgary Roughnecks and Toronto Rock have used to make it (and win in some cases) to the NLL’s Champion’s Cup.

What do you feel your greatest asset is that would allow you to translate your game to the NLL?
I’ve played box lacrosse at the highest level my whole life. I have big game experience and I know how to win.
One (or a couple) word(s) to describe your game?
Smart and hard working.
What role/position do you see yourself playing in the NLL?
A solid defender and a good looseball guy.
What current or former NLLer would you most closely compare or model your game after?
Brucey Codd in Calgary. People have always told me we play a similar game.
Your greatest accomplishment during lacrosse career?
Back-to-back Minto Cups and a chance at a third are definitely at the top of the list. Winning Defensive Player of the Year in the OLA (Jr. A) this year was awesome too.
Anything else to add?
I’m currently entering my 4th year of business school at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo as an accounting major and am taking a reduced course load in the winter.
