NLL Entry Draft: Hello, My Name is … Jordan Hendry

Jordan Hendry
Not many lacrosse players out there were born in Saudi Arabia, grew up in South Africa and played senior box lacrosse in Burnaby before wrapping up an NCAA field lacrosse career at the University of Denver. Jordan Hendry has, and that’s what sets him apart from many, if not all, other laxers out there. Hendry’s hoping his game sets him apart enough as well, enough to get the attention of a National Lacrosse League team come this fall when teams draft to build their teams. Big, strong and athletic, Hendry’s experienced a few places many of us haven’t and with any luck, the next stop on his itinerary will be the NLL.
Hendry brings something that not many American laxers bring: Canadian box experience. Over the course of 2 summers, he logged time with the Western Lacrosse Association’s Burnaby Lakers for a total of 12 games. His busiest summer with the Lakers came in 2008 when he dressed for 12 games and notched 2 goals and 1 assist as a defenseman.

Limited box experience, yes, but it’s still a whole heck of a lot more than a lot of American players with hopes for an NLL career. At Denver, he played 14 games this past spring for a 12-5 team that qualified for the NCAA Tournament before bowing out in the first round. And the great part about Americans so eager to join the ranks of the NLL is their eagerness to learn. More and more, we’re seeing guys like Hendry coming outta college with a chip on their shoulder to prove they can not only ball, but ball with the best.
Hendry is one of those guys, no doubt about it. He’s got the size to run with the big dogs, and the willingness to learn. It’s the sort of combination coaches love in players. Question is, which coach and which team is gonna give Hendry that chance to put it all on display.
