NLL Entry Draft: Hello My Name Is… Andrew Suitor

Orangeville Northmen assistant captain and 2-time Minto winner Andrew Suitor. (Ward Laforme Jr.)
In a couple of days Andrew Suitor will be stepping onto the floor at the Coquitam Sports Centre in search of his, and the Orangeville Northmen’s, third straight Minto Cup, a beyond rare feat that you’ll have to rewind back to the eary 80’s to match, Peterborough hitting the trifecta with Minto wins over Burnaby, Victoria and Etobicoke, a team that featured former NHL assist king Adam Oates and current PLPA excutive director Dave Succamore.
And whether Suitor and the favoured Northmen can pull off the three-peat in coming weeks, shortly after this year’s Minto kings are crowned, Suitor will find himself as a first rounder during this year’s National Lacrosse League entry draft, no doubt on virtually every pro sides wish list.
As reported by Insider earlier this summer, Suitor, an assistant captain with the Northmen and up for Insider’s Defender of the Year nod this summer, opted to enter this year’s pro draft a year early, forcing himself into a D heavy first round, Suitor likely going in the middle of the day’s first ten selections.
The soon to be 2010 Minto combatant is considered the ultimate team player, a leader that leaves absolutely everything on the floor every shift out, a rugged defensive work horse that can also do some damage on the press, more than capable at the dot, and very much skilled when his bucket and mitts hit the floor, considered by many to be the junior loop’s top fighter, already slugging it out with NLL fight club leader Rory Smith.
A similar style game to physical and athletic trannies like Geoff Snider and Brodie Merrill, who Suitor played for at Merrill’s Hill Academy prior to attending Adrian College, Suitor brings the on and off floor skills to be a 2011 NLL everyday player, one of this year’s more versatile prospects available.
