NLL Entry Draft: Hello My Name Is… Brad Levick

Brad Levick, Elmira College
A lack of active summer lacrosse leading up to drafts have hurt Canuck’s stock in recent years. Andrew Chapman (Drexel) and Dave Hodgins (Mars Hill) have been looked over by pro scouts over the past two drafts, respectively, both Canadian box bred ball players, both posting huge numbers at the collegiate level, but both barely given a sniff during the entry draft. Neither player, due to school, was able to compete much if at all during the Canadian loop’s summer Junior or Senior amateur seasons after gaining scholarships, something that likely significantly dropped their stock, off some teams radar entirely no doubt.
Even a high profile DI legend like Zack Greer, who may have not seen his stock drop leading into the draft, but his time away from summertime box courts saw him spending much of the 2010 season getting his indoor groove back, relearning aspects of the game he grew up playing, an OLA Jr. A Rookie of the Year and also stringing together an epic post-season with the Whitby Warriors just six short summers ago. Minnesota GM Marty O’Neill recently saying on the Swarm website in regards to the team’s first rounder last year…
First and foremost to continue the building of Zack. Last year that required us to define some roles and expectations for him, and that put a lot of pressure on him to just go out there and score. When he wasn’t scoring he worked really hard in the trenches, and he didn’t complain. He stuck to it and showed a lot character. He had to pick up the nuances of box lacrosse somewhere. I think things will come for him. He showed stress when didn’t convert, and I think that was largely because he because he wanted to do well. This year there are no mysteries for him and there are no mysteries for us. He is going to know what he needs to get better at and we are going to help him with that. On top of his shooting ability he is also a great passer and we hope to get him out on the power play more in the future.
As we saw when Insider took a peak past the league’s first couple rounds, prospects making the grade after around that 20th pick rarely make the jump to a full-time NLL roster, some players showing little to no interest in playing pro ball versus being just not good enough. Tons of non-box American field players are taken, few make an impact, or even an appearance.
One player that hasn’t played a ton of lacrosse on box courts recently but is beyond ready to get back to the game after a stellar DIII career at Elmira College is Brad Levick, a natural scoring threat with a great lacrosse IQ, coming off a career with the Soaring Eagles that saw him bury 123-goals during his four years there. Those off the charts numbers were no accident.
And while some scouts may wonder what Levick’s indoor game looks like since he last stepped onto the court with the Whitby Warriors (coincidently with Greer), one thing they can be assured of, Levick is a more mature, more polished and a more complete offensive player since he last played in Whitby, one of this year’s more interesting, mid-to-late round prospects available, with a ton of upside.
Eager, skilled, smart, motivated, proven (at various levels) and brought up on box, will teams fish for locals and brand name field Yanks, or grab a guy that knows “rhubarb” isn’t just what you put in a pie.

What do you feel your greatest asset is that would allow you to translate your game to the NLL?
My offensive abilities. I see the floor very well and also have a knack for finding the back of the net.
One word to describe your game?
Creative
What role/position do you see yourself playing in the NLL?
I would love to fill any role that a team would need me for. Whether it be a set-up man or a finisher. I just want to help my team win.
What current or former NLLer would you must closely compare or model your game after?
I try to have my own unique style of play, but when I was younger I tried to model my shooting style after Kim Squire.
Your greatest accomplishment (team or individual) during you career so far?
My greatest accomplishment in my lacrosse career would definately be my last season at Elmira College where I finished top five in the country for both goals and points per game.
Anything else to add?
I just graduated with a marketing and management degree and would love to help out any team on and off the floor. I also help coach the Newmarket midget box and U19 field lacrosse teams.
