Can you feel the excitement? Does everyday seem to take longer and longer to pass? Have you recently woken up in the middle of the night screaming “D-Fence”? Well then you, my friend, are suffering from play-off anxiety! And the only cure is MORE COWBELL!!! Sorry, I couldn’t help myself on that one. The actual only known cure is to paint your face, put on your favourite jersey and head to your local NLL rink for a conference final game (if applicable).  If not, make sure you computer is near a cozy chair and a cooler.

Let’s take a look back at some of the hot topics going about the league these days and then you can all tell me how wrong or right you think I am  - but you must submit your comments in the form of a haiku. What, just cause the season’s over you think you get time to rest the mind?

Un”Duch”able

OK, that’s about as cheesy as they come but how can you not marvel at the sick game coming from the #10 jersey in Everett.  17 goals in his last 4 games is pretty legit but TWELVE in his last two is more insane. I had words with Rhys after the game and he said that he’s just putting it where the goalie isn’t. Pretty elementary if you ask me but whatever works, right?  So being the ‘journalist’ that I am, I wanted to get deeper into the source, cue assistant coach Dan Stroup. With a big smile, it was obvious he was happy with the way his offensive star was playing. “So did you give him any tips Stroupy?” “Yeah I just told him to close his eyes and throw it off his back foot like I did!”  So that’s the secret… One might think that there is some wild secret to Duch’s recent hot streak but anyone that has seen him play it obvious that he has a knack for the net and this isn’t anything out of the norm. Like a shark when he smells blood in the water, Duch continues to attack and crash the net as often as he can. Can he continue his impressive numbers this week versus the Rush? There’s a good chance he will see lots of pressure all night but it won’t be the first time a team has tried to shut him down.  On a quick side note- hi #42 (happy now?)

Key Arena

As it has been relentlessly posted about on the wingszone forums, the Washington Stealth have to play their Western Finals game away from the friendly confines of the Comcast Arena due to Elmo and his furry friends. No Tutka this isn’t a Furries convention so put your Rudy the Fox costume away. Sesame Street has a three year contract in Everett and this was the original date and there was no way to work around it. So the team, fans and turf will have to make the half hour trek south to downtown Seattle and take up residence for one night only. Many fans were worried that Everett was a bad move in the beginning, thinking they wouldn’t pack the place and the franchise was doomed to fail. While numbers haven’t been as high as some had hoped, being in Everett has been a positive start. Seattle may not be the greatest sports market in North America but it certainly does have a lot of options for its sports fans and last week the Stealth ran into a sports-extravaganza where they didn’t stand a chance.  With the Mariners (MLB), Sounders (MLS), a Brooks and Dunn concert, another big concert nearby, the Mayweather fight and a Canucks (NHL) play-off game on the same night, the crowd may not have been massive but what they lacked in size they made up in energy. Give this city a chance. They are very passionate about their sport teams and they are slowly realizing that they have a great product in the Stealth and given time they will be a very large and loyal fan base.  Will the temporary move to the Key be profitable? Who knows but what it will do, will allow many Seattle residents to check out a game in their back yard which could convince them to head north on the I-5 in the future.
