National Lacrosse League Power Rankings: Week 9

It was a quiet weekend in the NLL with only two games. Mark Steenhuis scored 6 goals and added 4 assists in leading the Buffalo Bandits past the first place Orlando Titans and in Calgary the Roughnecks won their 4th straight with a decisive 15-7 victory over the Philadelphia Wings. Next weekend will be much busier with 7 games on the schedule. It could be a pivotal weekend for many teams including Philadelphia, Orlando and Buffalo whom each play back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday – with all three teams facing a rested opponent on Saturday.
Check it out the new number one team in the Power Rankings.

1 (2)

Calgary Roughnecks
5-3
The Roughnecks are hot and back on top of the Power Rankings (where we thought they would be when we started the season). However they are more concerned with first place in the West division standings and they can move there with a victory over Washington next week.

2 (1)

Orlando Titans
4-3
I don’t care what type of season the Bandits have had thus far, it’s never easy to win in Buffalo and the Titans found that out. Next weekend is huge for the Titans as they play Philly and Rochester.

3 (3)

Washington Stealth
6-3
First place is on the line when the Stealth travel to Calgary next weekend.

4 (4)

Toronto Rock
6-4
Moved back into first without playing. They’ll have their hands full when the Bandits come to the ACC next Friday.

5 (5)

Edmonton Rush
5-3
Can get a share of first place with a win in Colorado.

6 (6)

Boston Blazers
5-4
The Blazers hope to face a tired and battle weary Bandits team Saturday night in Boston.

7 (7)

Rochester Knighthawks
5-4
Will have their chance to overtake the Titans in the standings when Orlando comes to Rochester for their 2nd game in two nights.

8 (8)

Minnesota Swarm
4-4
Riding a three game winning streak the Swarm head into Philly on Saturday and hope to gain the advantage against a tired Wings team.

9 (10)

Buffalo Bandits
3-6
The Bandits have won three of their last five but if they don’t sweep next weekend’s games (in Toronto and Boston) they might just run out of regular season.

10 (9)

Philadelphia Wings
2-7
The Wings are in even worse shape than the Bandits. They need to sweep next weekend to have any dream of making a playoff push.

11 (11)

Colorado Mammoth
2-6
Can you believe the Mammoth are 0-4 at home? They host Edmonton next weekend and if they don’t get a victory they might as well write off the 2010 season.
