NLL Entry Draft: Hello My Name Is… Carlton Schuss

Delta Islanders power forward Carlton Schuss
Delta Islanders power forward Carlton Schuss

Big, strong, fearless, skilled and a mean streak to match, the Delta Islanders’ Carlton Schuss is your prototypical power forward, and after entering the pro entry draft early as one of this year’s most talented ’89’s, Schuss’ inclusion this year definitely shakes things up a bit.

He’s the kinda ball player you hate to play against, but love to share the same logo on your sweater with.

The Islanders’ top point getter this past season, Carlton wreaks pure havoc in the opposition’s zone, putting his body on the line to create space like few others in the junior game can.

Schuss’ size and approach to the game also make him one of the most NLL ready U21’s available this year, and after the jump, get to know one of ’09’s biggest early round wild cards.

CARLTON SCHUSS

Height: 6′2
Weight: 220 lbs.
Position: Forward
Shoots: Left
From: Ladner B.C.
Junior: Delta Islanders

What do you feel your greatest asset is that would allow you to translate your game to the NLL?
I would have to say my greatest asset would be my size and strength. I am able to push defenders through the middle to set big picks and get guys open.

One (or a couple) word(s) to describe your game?
Rough, gritty and I play with an edge.

What role/position do you see yourself playing in the NLL?
I would definitely be a decoy player, setting big picks, allowing the top players good opportunities to score.

What current or former NLLer would you most closely compare or model your game after?
I would have to say Colin Doyle. I use my size and strength to my advantage while protecting the ball, always with my head up, looking for the dish or taking it to the rack.

Your greatest accomplishment (team or individual) during your college, junior or even senior lacrosse career?
Winning the Senior Men’s Field Nationals in Calgary with the Ladner Pioneers last October. Then taking the gold at the latest BC Men’s provincials, again with the Pioneers.

Anything else to add?
I’m willing to move anywhere to be a part of the NLL.
