NLL Entry Draft: Hello My Name Is… Kyle Clancy

Peterborough Jr. Lakers forward Kyle Clancy
The other week talked about the difficulty for kids still in the junior ranks, landing an everyday O spot on a National Lacrosse League roster.
You could probably count on one hand the amount of junior level players that have been productive offensive starters in the league over the past five plus years. Yeah, there have been guys that have played minor roles on O in some capacity, but very, very, very few Shawn Evans or Ryan Benesch type players are pro ready while still 21 or under.
One player that might have the chops to make the transition based on his style of play, Peterborough Lakers forward Kyle Clancy, who finished third in OLA Jr. A scoring this year, one of only five players to break the 100-point barrier in ‘09 in all of Canada.
Clancy plays gritty, hard nosed, honest lacrosse off ball and in traffic, but can also find the back of the net like few did this year.
The Jr. Lakers power forward definitely has similar tools past junior-to-pro success stories have displayed and could even find himself taken in the second round of this year’s draft depending on how the loaded first round plays out.
In fact, Clancy’s 108-point total from this past year was just topped only once by former Lakers’ teammate, Shawn Evans, who posted 112 with Peterborough in ‘06. Evans also had 108 points in his final year of junior lacrosse, playing for the Six Nations Arrows.
He’s got the size, skills and attitude to be a guy some teams look to for production as early as the 2010 NLL season.
Check out Clancy’s profile below, and check back in early September to see where the former U19 Team Canada member lands in arguably the NLL’s most high profile ever draft.
KYLE CLANCY

Weight: 200 lbs.
Position: Forward

From: Peterborough, Ontario
Junior: Peterborough Lakers
What do you feel your greatest asset is that would allow you to translate your game to the NLL?
I feel I can adapt my game to whatever a team needs me to do. I can set picks, shoot the ball and have a good read on the floor.
One (or a couple) word(s) to describe your game?
Hardworking and intense.
What current or former NLLer would you most closely compare or model your game after?
I like to try and play like Dan Carey, but also bring an inside game in too.
Anything else to add?
I’m currently working for the Peterborough Lakers’ lacrosse camps and am available to play in any NLL city.
