Live In Game Blog: Washington Bayhawks at Toronto Nationals

Click here for the boxscore and game story.

The Baltimore Bayhawks will battle the Toronto Nationals for the third time this season. This time however, it is not being played in Washington, instead the Bayhawks will try to turn things around on the Nationals’ home turf.

Today’s weather is looking similar to Toronto’s last home game against the Long Island Lizards where the clouds let both the players and fans have it. For my own sake, the fans and players as well, I hope the rain will hold off until final siren sounds.

The Toronto Nationals’ must be hoping that they do not come away with another loss at home and the Washington Bayhawks must be hoping that they can finally figure out a Toronto Nationals team that has handed them two losses on the season.

First Quarter

15:00 Faceoff won by Geoff Snider

13:55 GOAL scored by the Merrick Thomson from Joe Walters right on the crease. 1-0 Nationals. Ensuing faceoff won by Washington

12:20 GOAL scroed by Washington’s Andrew Hall from Buggs Combs. Ensuing faceoff won by Geoff Snider 1-1

Missing from today’s lineups are: Danny Glading, Ben Rubeor, Ronnie Staines, and Chris Garrity

10:45 Huge save right on the top of the crease by Doc Schnieder who is starting today’s game

10:06 GOAL Toronto, scored by Collin Doyle from Gavin Prout 2-1 Toronto

9:46 Washington goes on the powerplay after a late hit after the faceoff. Toronto manages to get the ball back though and is killing the clock

8:41 TIMEOUT Washington

Note: Toronto’s colours today look very similar to the LA Riptide’s blue, orange, and white. White helmets with orange vent stripes not too mention they are sporting white gloves. Good look nonetheless.

8:22 GOAL Washington 2-2. Scored by Andrew Combs right on the crease. Faceoff won by Washington’s who’s transition game cannot manage to keep the ball in play.

7:40 Stephen Hoar lays a great check to get Toronto possession. They get the ball upfield and yet another goal right on the crease. Scoring the goal at 7:22. 3-2 Nationals. Delby Powless with the goal.

6:48 Snider cannot seem to win a faceoff today as Washington is owning the X right now.

5:09 Brodie Merrill intercepts a pass and brings it up field, but he  turns the ball over.

4:41 Save by Schieder who stops a blast from Kevin Buchanan

4:15 Another SAVE by Schnieder off of his shaft by another blast from Buchanan

3:55 YET ANOTHER SAVE from Schnieder on the doorstep except form Kevin Huntley this time

3:30 SAVE by Chris Collins on the other side of the field. Stopped Doyle from going 5-hole.

3:23 TIMEOUT Bayhawks

2:55 SAVE by Schnieder on Brian Vetter, Merrill gets teh pass and brings the ball upfield but he cannot keep the transition going.

2:07 Another SAVE by Schnieder. He’s looking like he wants to give Greer a run for his Rookie of the Week award

1:01 ANOTHER SAVE byDoc Schnieder right up close

0:20 GOAL by Jeff Zywicki who picked up an errant pass and potted on over Collins’ shoulder. Gavin Prout and Brian Vetter got into a beaking match and saw who could exchange better chirps. Both are in the box. And let me tell you, Alex smith has been a beast on faceboffs today as he just won another one. 4-2 Nationals

Second Quarter

15:00 FACEOFF Won by Smith again. Like Schneider, this man is just having a beast of a day, and its only the second quarter.

14:02 Behind the back shot by Jed Prossner which was stopped. I am surprised he is playing being that he missed the Team USA tryouts.

12:39 Brian Vetter is having a fun day. He is throwing high cross checks and he is dodging slashes like its his job. Another big save by Schnieder who gets the ball to Joe Cinosky who pass the ball to Merrick Thomson who snuck a goal past by Chris Collins. Nationals transition game is to be feared.  5-2 Nationals

11:51 Faceoff won by Alex Smith, and another huge save by Doc Schnieder right on up close on Spencer Ford.

Washington is being very careful on their clears.

9:46 GOAL Washington by Spencer Ford who tucked a goal up high past Schnieder. Do I even need to say it? Faceoff won by Alex Smith

9:17 GOAL by Geoff Snider who scooped up a loose ball off a stick check.

8:11 Kyle Dixon let a shot go but it sails way wide. Buggs Combs follows up with another shot but it too goes over the cross bar.

7:01 Washington manages to draw two penalties while Jordan Levine ran up the field and threw a wicked swim dodge, reminisent of the one’s Paul Rabil throws.

6:48 GOAL Jeff Zywicki on another errant pass that came his way. He snaked a goal five hole putting the Nationals up 7-3. Smith with another faceoff win. That man may help the USA dethrone Canada as World Champions, who knows. FOGOS are important you know?

5:37 GOAL Washington scored by Kyle Dixon. He fired a rocket that took schneider off of his feet, literally. Merrill is sent in to try and beat Smith at the x… it did not help.

4:48 Combs hit the cross bar and the Nationals recovered and scored another quick transition goal. 8-5 Nationals. Scored short handed by Sid Smith, unassisted.

3:17 2pt GOAL Toronto scored by Joe Walters. 10-5 Nationals. Snider approaches the X and comes away with the ball. Perhaps the faceoff battle will be more balanced from here on out?

1:29 Shot by Combs who hit the post.

Score is 10-5 Nationals at halftime.

Third Quarter:

15:00 Faceoff won by Alex Smith

14:39 GOAL Washington. Kevin Buchanan

scored a quick one down low on Scheider.

Game note, Joey Kemp has started the second half.

13:35 GOAL Joe Walters planted his feet and fired a 1pt goal past Joey Kemp. 12-6 Nationals. Faceoff won by Geoff Snider

12:11 Joey Kemp makes his first save on the day

Note: Brett Queener has also come in the for the second half of the game. I realized that once he made one of his ussual dashes upfield

10:43 GOAL by Andrew Combs who gobbled up a rebound and burried it past Queener

9:39 Beautiful save by Kemp off of Merrick Thomson.

9:10 Kevin Buchanan used a spectacular move but it was stuffed by Queener on the crease

Neither Toronto nor Washington seems to be getting anything going. Big ups to both defenses.

4:37 Queener came out of the net and gave Spencer Ford an open shot. Joe Cinosky saved what should have been a “sure thing”.

3:29 Kevin Buchanan hits the cross bar on a bouce shot. Washington seems unable to catch any breaks right now to get themselves back into this game.

3:12 Queener with a huge save on his off side off a quick shot from Spencer Ford up close.

2:09 GOAL Washington by Jed Prossner who got a pass right in the middle from Kevin Huntley. 12-8 Nationals. Faceoff won by Snider

1:46 GOAL Toronto Nationals scored by Brodie Merrill. Faceoff won by Alex Smith

0:43 Save by Queener on a rolling shot from Huntley

0:10 Cinosky got a pass from Queener as he was running hte ball upfield after making a save. Toronto was unable to score the transition goal.

4th Quarter

14:40 Brodie Merrill brought the ball upfield and sniped one past Kemp to make 14-8.Faceoff won by Alex Smith

14:05: GOAL by Jordan Levine to put hte Nationals up 15-8. Snider won the faceoff and ran down the field but his shot missed wide.

13:01 GOAL by the Toronto Nationals. Delby Powless scored a bullet from almost even. He somehow sneaked it past Kemp. 16-8 Nationals. They are just running away with this one.

Queener loves to dance inbetween between breaks. Showing again why is one of the most loved personalities in the sport.

12:40 Snider had a great chance but he just seems unable to get the ball past Kemp.

10:58 Washington missed a great chance to score. Spencer Ford’s pass to Huntley was just too high

9:49 Merrick Thomson picks up a groundball, winds up, and blasts one past Kemp to put the Nationals up by 9 points. Faceoff won by Snider

7:00 Queener made a great save and ran up the field, dodging 3 defenders but was unable to get a shot off. He definately looked as though he wanted to score a goal today. The crowd loves him.

4:54 GOAL Nationals. Colin Doyle threw a behind the back pass to Levine which bounced to Shawn Williams, who scored on the doorstep. Faceoff won by Smith

4:17 GOAL Washington by Brian Vetter who scored a blaster from the outside off a feed from Huntley. 18-9 Nationals. Faceoff won by Smith, like I even need to say who won anymore. The man has got to clicking at almost 80% today.

2:41 GOAL by Joe Walters. Making it look easy, Walters looked relaxed, dodged three defenders and fired a shot low.

1:10 Queener leaves his crease and runs upfield. He really wants to score that goal today but he just cannot find the space.

0:38 GOAL Spencer Ford who scores a beauty one handed goal from behind the net. 19-10 Nationals. Faceoff won by Alex Smith

0:29 Dan Groot picked up the loose ball and potted another goal. 19-11 Nationals. It seems too little too late though.

0:15 GOAL Washington again. Scored after an intercepted pass got to Dan Groot. 19-12 Nationals. The Bayhawks are finding their offense far too late in the game. Faceoff won by Alex Smith, but Queener makes a save to close out the game.

Brodie Merrill won today’s Bud Light MVP. Goaltending today was  definately the difference. Schneider started the game very well and put Toronto in winning position after the first half. Had the Bayhawks found their offense earlier in the game, the game might have been much closer like their previous two games.
